No speakers cancel for Eilat renewable energy conference

BrightSource Energy chairman Arnold Goldman: Shifting away from traditional power sources such as coal and oil will be a difficult, yet very necessary, process. We view this conference as an opportunity towards taking the first steps in introducing that shift.

The fighting against Hamas in Gaza has not deterred any speakers at next month's Eilat-Eilot International Renewable Energy Conference.

“We have not received word form any of the conference lecturers that they are cancelling their trip to Israel and we are therefore continuing our preparation for the event as originally planned,” said Amnon Samid, a conference organizer. “We hope that the conflict will be over well before the conference begins."

Conference representatives confirmed today that the lineup of world renewable energy leaders will be introducing broad policy during the conference, aimed at reducing the world’s oil dependence through the introduction of multi-faceted alternative energy solutions that include wind, solar, and bio-fuels.

“The key to introducing far-reaching renewable energy policies starts with the ability to accurately articulate what the goals and objectives of such policies should be,” said BrightSource Energy founder and chairman Arnold Goldman.

In addition to Goldman, who will address the “Barriers to Solar as the Predominant Source of Energy,” other presentations include George Washington University’s Dr. Ken Zweibel, who will discuss his “Grand Solar Plan” and ELIASOL CEO Gilbert Cohen, who will discuss the “The First Thermal Power Plant of the 21st Century".

“Shifting away from traditional power sources such as coal and oil will be a difficult, yet very necessary, process,” said Goldman. “We view this conference as an opportunity towards taking the first steps in introducing that shift."

Eilat is well out of the range of the rockets currently being fired into Israel. The conference will take place from February 17-19 at Eilat’s Herod’s Palace hotel.
