Once again the employees of the Israel Electric Corporation and the Mekorot Water Company earned the highest salaries.
The latest Central Bureau of Statistics figures show that average gross salary in the Israeli economy fell by 0.5% in 2008 to NIS 8,060 per month.
At the end of 2008 there were about 2.8 million salaried employees in Israel, 3.1% more than at the end of 2007.
Once again, the employees of the Israel Electric Corporation and the Mekorot Water Company earned the highest average gross salary of NIS 19,680. At the bottom of the table were employees in the catering and accommodations sector with an average monthly salary of NIS 3,737.
The biggest fall in the average salary was in the transport sector where salaries dropped 3.2%, while Mekorot and IEC employees saw their salaries increase by 2.8% in 2008, compared with 2007.
