Israeli exports hit less thanks to high tech

Israel's high tech exports account for 50% of its total exports, while high tech only accounts for an average of 25% of the world's exports.

According to a Bank of Israel study, "Although world trade sank about 40% from August 2008 through February 2009, Israeli exports fell considerably less only about 30% - during that time. That is because, according to a 60-country study of the relationship between makeup of exports and the change in exports, it was found that exports from countries with a relative advantage in high tech products were hurt less during the crisis"

For the purpose of the study, an index was developed to measure relative advantage, setting it as the ratio of export levels of one product out of a country's total exports to the world average. Israel's high tech exports account for 50% of its total exports, while high tech only accounts for an average of 25% of the world's exports.
