CT software start-up Medic Vision raises $1m

The company's product reduces the amount of radiation required in CT scans, lowering the cancer risk.

Sources inform "Globes" that Haifa-based Medic Vision - Brain technologies has completed a $1 million fund raising round from 7 Health Ventures and private investors. The company, which has developed an application for reducing radiation in CT scans, was founded in 2006 in the Technion Seed technological incubator. The company's software product substantially reduces the noise-to-signal ratio in imaging systems. According to the company, this makes it possible to cut the radiation level in CT scans by about 80%.

The company has provided research data showing that 1.5-2% of incidences of cancer in the US are likely to be attributable to CT radiation. The risk among children is much higher.

Medic Vision's product is undergoing trials at the Rambam Hospital in Haifa. The trials have shown that it does indeed reduce the radiation level substantially without affecting the accuracy of the image.
