"Yediot Ahronot" no longer a monopoly

The newspaper's share of the Hebrew readership is now less than half, the Antitrust Authority has decided.

Hebrew daily "Yediot Ahronot" has a market share of less than half of the Hebrew readers in Israel. This is according to Antitrust Authority director Ronit Kan, who informed Yediot Ahronot today of the cancellation of the declaration that it was a monopoly in the Hebrew daily newspaper market. The change is the result of the entry into that market of freesheet "Israel Today", owned by Sheldon Adelson. Kan's decision followed an approach by Yediot Ahronot publisher Arnon Mozes.

Yediot Ahronot had been declared a monopoly since April 1995.
