Nat'l distribution of gas masks begins

For the first time, the Post Office will, upon request and for a fee, distribute gas mask kits directly to people's homes.

The IDF Home Front Command and Israel Postal Company Ltd. today began a nationwide distribution of gas masks by courier to people's homes and by pick-up at distribution points. The distribution comes after a trial distribution several weeks ago in Kiryat Ono. A TV information campaign will be launched tonight to encourage people to obtain the gas mask kits, followed by billboard campaigns.

The gas mask kits will not include the nerve gas antidote Atropine, this time.

For the first time, gas masks will also be distributed by couriers. People can call the Post Office call center at 171 to coordinate delivery to their homes. This delivery service will cost NIS 25 per household

In addition, gas mask distribution points will be opened in Ashdod and Rishon LeZion in a few days. Eight additional distribution points will later open in Jerusalem, Beersheva, greater Haifa, and in metropolitan Tel Aviv.

The IDF collected old gas mask kits in 2007-08 in order to renew them.

In cases where people did not return their old gas mask kits, they will have to pay a fee: for gas mask kits distributed before January 1, 2004 - NIS 70; for kits with bellows, and kits for infants and children - NIS 100; kits distributed since the beginning of 2010, and which have been lost or damaged - NIS 500-800.
