Meezoog sets up joint dating site with Sweden's Pirate Bay

Meezoog seeks to merge online, real social worlds.

Dr. Yossi Vardi-backed Israeli dating site Meezoog Ltd. has set up a joint venture with Swedish file-sharing website The Pirate Bay, Pirate Date, using Meezoog technology. Meezoog will provide Pirate Date users with social measuring tools to easily filter their social networks.

Meezoog CEO Tuvia Rosenthal, CTO Hanan Shulman, and algorithmatician Erel Segel in 2007. The site seeks to bridge social network sites with dating sites by offering a dating platform based on real ties between friends. Rosenthal says that the merger creates transparency between the online and real worlds, and is not just another virtual world.

Meezoog calls itself a dating social network that is not only meant for single people. It uses a system of social trust that allows members to vouch for each other and verify that friends are real, single and trustworthy.

Meezoog has raised $500,000 to date from private Investors in Israel. Pirate Bay was illegal when it was founded as a file-sharing site in 2003. A Swedish court convicted the company and its founders of copyright infringement, levying a $2.8 million fine plus jail time.
