TowerJazz in strategic alliance with Japan's Toppan

TowerJazz says that the partnership helps it expand its presence in the Japanese market, especially among Toppan customers.

Specialty foundry TowerJazz (Nasdaq: TSEM; TASE: TSEM) has signed a strategic partnership with Japan's Toppan Technical Design Center Co. Ltd. TowerJazz will be the preferred vendor for Toppan and will also be an official design center partner.

TowerJazz and Toppan already collaborate multiple specialty design projects for silicon germanium (SiGe) BiCMOS technologies used for high-speed radiofrequency applications. TowerJazz says that the partnership helps it expand its presence in the Japanese market, especially among Toppan customers.

Gartner estimates that the Japanese market for foundry services will grow to $1.3 billion in 2012.

As an official design center partner for Toppan, TowerJazz will give Toppan customer's access to its specialty process technologies, technical support, and manufacturing capacity.

Tower's share price fell 1.4% on Nasdaq yesterday to $1.45, giving a market cap of $288 million, and fell 0.9% in morning trading on the TASE today to NIS 5.50.
