BIRD Foundation has invested over $280 million in more than 800 joint projects since it was founded 33 years ago.
Israel-United States Binational Industrial Research and Development Foundation (BIRD-F) has approved $4.2 million in grants for six projects. The projects by Israeli and US companies have an aggregate budget of $18 million.
The six projects are as follows:
IBM Israel Ltd. and fabless semiconductor company Tensorcom Inc. will develop a miniature low-energy transceiver; NanoPass Technologies Ltd. and the Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI) will develop a micro-platform for subcutaneous injections of flu vaccines; Simbionix Ltd. and HPCC will develop a simulator for gynecological procedures; Vcortex Ltd. and Presstek Inc. (Nasdaq: PRST) will develop an automated color control system for digital printers. BIRD Foundation has invested over $280 million in more than 800 joint projects since it was founded 33 years ago. The projects have generated over $8 billion in direct sales.
BIRD Foundation executive director Dr. Eitan Yudilevich said that the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor had recently decided to increase Israel's funding for BIRD by $30 million. He said that efforts were now underway for a similar decision by the US.
