A team from Taiwanese television station DaAi TV Network is in Israel for a series of programs on Israeli water technologies, giving the industry an important marketing opportunity. DaAi TV is aired by satellite worldwide, and has millions of viewers in the Far East and America.
The Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute is hosting the visit as part of its joint effort with Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor's commercial attaches in Taiwan and other countries to promote Israeli water technologies in Asia.
The series is due to have eight 24-minute episodes. Each episode will be devoted to one topic: desalination; water conservation and leaks prevention; water management and transportation; water purification; filtration; sewage treatment and wastewater recycling; water control, management, and monitoring; irrigation; and an episode on Israel's Bedouin community. Da Ai will also air a promotion for the series on its news program in Taiwan.
DaAi's team will visit Mekorot National Water Company, Netafim Ltd., IDE Technologies Ltd., Shari Arison's water venture MIYA, Whitewater Technology Group portfolio company Checklight Ltd., Motorola Israel Ltd. unit Mottech Water Management Solutions Ltd., and other companies.
A noteworthy absentee from the series is Israel's premier water technologies incubator Kinrot Technology Ventures. The Export Institute said that DaAi's list was still open to change, and Kinrot may yet make the cut.
DaAi TV will also interview representatives from the Peres Peace Center, the Ministry of National Infrastructures, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Industry Trade and Labor, as well as the manager Mekorot's Watec Entrepreneurship & Partnership Center for Water Technologies, Baruch Oren.
DaAi will visit, among other sites, the Ashkelon seawater desalination plants, one of the world's largest, the Shafdan sewage treatment plant, the Hiriya waste treatment and recycling center, the Nir Etzion sewage treatment plant, Mottech’s turf and landscape irrigation management project in the Ramat Gan National Park. The team also plans to visit Better Place LLC, and may run a separate program on Shay Agassi's electric car venture.
DaAi's show could greatly help Israeli exports to Asia, which totaled $284 million in January-May 2010, 109% more than in the corresponding period in 2009. The growth was achieved despite the global recession. Imports from Asia rose 28% to $271 million in January-May.
Israeli-Taiwanese traded totaled $1 billion in 2009, 14% less in than in 2008. Taiwan is Israel's 17th largest trade partner.
