Orbit Alchut Technologies Ltd. (TASE:ORBI) subsidiary Orbit Communications Systems Inc. has won a NIS 2.6 million order for two telemetry tracking systems from the US Navy Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland. The order boosts Orbit's backlog for tracking systems to NIS 45 million so far this year, 70% more than in the corresponding period of 2009.
Orbit president and CEO Avi Cohen said, "It is important to emphasize the size of this achievement. The US defense market, which prefers to buy American, chose Orbit thanks to the technological supremacy of our solutions. We believe that this advantage will enable us to continue to present growth in this important segment."
The telemetry tracking systems will be used by the Patuxent River Naval Air Station Atlantic Test Ranges telemetry unit, one of the leading US telemetry testing centers. Orbit's state-of-the-art telemetry systems, include two of the company's latest innovations: tri-band (L/S/C) feed system monitoring antenna, and a new antenna control system.
Last week, Orbit sold aircraft tracking and communications systems to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for NIS 1.5 million. The NOAA has an option to increase the order to NIS 3.6 million. The NOAA will use the systems for its fleet of Orion WP-3 planes, which conduct hurricane and storm tracking, atmosphere and oceanic monitoring, and track global climate change.
