Cable Authority bans 3-year commitment requirement

The move follows numerous consumer complaints.

The Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Authority has ended the three commitment period HOT Telecommunication Systems Ltd. (TASE: HOT) and DBS Satellite Services (1998) Ltd. (YES) require of their subscribers, and set a limit of 18 months. The Ministry of Communications will apply the order on triple-play services (telephony, television, Internet). The order will come into effect in two weeks. It will not apply retroactively.

The Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Authority also ordered HOT and YES to create overlapping commitment periods for their subscribers, so that all of a subscriber's different services expire simultaneously. In other words, the commitment period for content and the set-top box will end at the same time.

The Ministry of Communications will not change contractual agreements that do not include a basket of television programming services.

The order was issued in response to numerous consumer complaints.
