Urban renewal plans deposited for 276 homes in Jerusalem's Talpiot

The new housing units will replace 72 apartments built in the 1950s.

The Jerusalem District Planning and Building Committee today approved for deposit plans for 276 housing units in the Talpiot neighborhood of Jerusalem. The new apartments are part of an urban renewal project, which will see 72 two room apartments that were built in the 1950s pulled down.

The project will be built on a 5.5 dunam (1.125 acre) lot between Hebron Road and Bethlehem Road that will also include public thoroughfares, a kindergarten and day-care center.

The new project will comprise 276 apartments each of 80 square meters in four buildings, two of 12 floors and two of over 20 floors.

The project was launched by the government in 2004 through its housing company Prazot and the architect David Guggenheim.
