Hebrew alphabet domain names available from Sunday

Registration of Hebrew domain names is via the Israel Internet Association.

Hebrew alphabet domain names will be available on the web for the general public from 2 pm Sunday. The national suffix "il" for Israel will remain in Latin letters. Registration of Hebrew domain names is via the Israel Internet Association.

Registration of Hebrew domain names for the general public follows the recent completion of the early registration process, during which registered organizations, including companies, NPOs, and trademark holders could reserve a Hebrew domain name in the organization's official name or trademark.

Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI), Bezeq Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ), the Mega in the City supermarket chain (owned by Alon Holdings Blue Square - Israel Ltd. (NYSE: BSI; TASE: BSI)), and Excellence Investments Ltd. (TASE: EXCE) are among the companies that have already registered Hebrew domain names.

Beginning on Sunday, any Hebrew domain name that has not already been taken, can be registered on a first come, first served basis. The national suffix "il" may also be changed to Hebrew letters if permission from the relevant authorities is obtained.

Israel Internet Association VP Doron Shikmoni said, "Hebrew domain names will facilitate Internet access for the public, which until now may have refrained from going online because of the need to use the Latin alphabet. With the completion of the application of Hebrew domain names, it will be possible to access sites with Hebrew names from Israel and anywhere in the world."
