The Ministry of Transport announced today that new rules have come into effect raising the speed limit on major highways: Road 2 (the Coastal Highway), Road 4 (Geha), and Road 431 (between Modi'in and Rishon LeZion). The speed limit on part of Road 1 (the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv Highway) and Road 77 (between Ishai Junction and Tiberias in the Galilee) will be raised next week.
The speed limit on Road 2 was raised to 100 km/h. The speed limit on Road 4 between Ashdod and Rishon LeZion, and Road 431 between Aneva Interchange and Ness Zion, was raised to 110 km/h. The speed limit on Road 77 will also be raised to 100 km/h.
The speed limit on Road 1 will be raised to 110 km/h between the Latrun Interchange and the confluence with Road 6 (the Cross-Israel Highway) near Ben Shemen. The speed limit on Road 5 will also be raised to 110 km/h on the section between the Samaria gate and Heres Interchange.
Although the speed limits were raised by 10 km/h, the Ministry of Transport has agreed with the Israel Police that enforcement will begin only at 10% above the limit.
