Nurses launch sanctions; demand more nurses

The Health Ministry, which supports the nurses, called on the families of patients to assist in their care at hospital.

The National Nurses Union today launched labor sanctions, and will not admit new patients into internal wards whose occupancy rate is already over 100%. The sanctions are not over pay, but to demand more manpower and beds in the wards.

The nurses' sanctions follow the recent prolonged prosecutors' strike and the threat of sanctions by Ministry of Foreign Affairs employees.

In contrast to recent strikes, the nurses will come to work every day and conduct routine activities. The admittance of new patients into overcrowded wards is the only service that will be disrupted. The Nurses Union says that the strike is for "the sake of public and patients".

The sanctions will not apply in children's hospitals.
