Gilat wins US contract worth $40-50m

The company will supply a satellite communications system to support about 27,000 state lottery sites in Texas and Illinois.

Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. (Nasdaq: GILT; TASE: GILT) has won a significant contract in the US. The company will supply, through its wholly-owned Spacenet subsidiary, a satellite communications system to support about 27,000 state lottery sites in Texas and Illinois.

The value of the deal was not reported but market sources estimate it to be worth $40-50 million.

The project includes providing SkyEdge broadband satellite terminals, deployment, operations and maintenance.

The multi-year contract awards from the past month follow Gilat projects for 6,000 sites for the Indiana, Iowa and Louisiana lotteries. Those were deployed earlier in 2010. Spacenet provides VSAT (very small aperture terminal) solutions tailored to the specific needs of the lottery market.

Spacenet CEO Andreas Georghiou said, "Spacenet has worked with multiple gaming industry partners for almost 20 years, and we have some of the largest revenue generating lotteries as our customers."

Gilat announced previously in 2010 that it has been selected to provide VSATs for lotteries in West Africa and in North Africa.

Gilat shares rose 0.5% in mid-day trading on Nasdaq.
