Netanyahu: Higher commodities prices the next challenge

The prime minister asserted that his alternative will be responsible, not based on populism.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu referred today, at the beginning of the weekly meeting of the Likud faction, to reported plans to lower gasoline prices.

He asserted that his alternative will be "responsible, not based on populism", as he added, "there is nothing easier than to be populist."

Netanyahu said, "There is an island of economic stability, we made it through the crisis, and that was in partnership with everyone. Today we stand before another challenge: A sharp rise in the price of raw materials around the world. It is happening because there is an increase in demand. The economy in Asia is recovering, and then the price of commodities rises. At the same time, there is a question about supply. The Middle East is problematic."
