Doctors resume strike

The doctors have cancelled all surgery except for the removal of cancer tumors.

The Israel Medical Association resumed the doctors' strike today, following last week's two-day strike, after it did not attend two meetings scheduled over the weekend with the Ministry of Finance. Today, the Medical Association will hold information meetings at hospitals nationwide.

The Ministry of Finance says that if the Medical Association fails to turn up for today's meeting, the ministry will consider asking the National Labor Court for a back to work order.

Doctors intend to cancel all surgical procedures tomorrow and Tuesday in the public health system, except to remove cancerous tumors. On Wednesday, unless there is a breakthrough in the talks with the Ministry of Finance, the Medical Association plans to call a general strike at all public hospitals nationwide, during which time they will only perform life saving surgeries.
