Assuta's sole bid wins Ashdod hospital tender.

Construction of the city's first hospital is scheduled to begin within two years, and take four years.

Assuta Medical Centers Ltd. has won the inter-ministry tender to build and operate a hospital in Ashdod, the city's first.

The Ashdod Hospital (Establishment and Operation) Law (5772-2002) stipulates that a hospital with at least 300 beds will be established in the city of 205,000 residents. The Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health and the Israel Land Administration published a joint tender on August 9, 2009 for the planning, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the hospital, which will be built on a 70-dunam (17.5-acre) site owned by the Land Administration in the city.

Assuta Medical Centers subsidiary Assuta Ashdod Ltd. filed the only bid in the tender on December 15, 2010. The tender committee found that the bid met the construction, financial, and operational conditions of the tender and declared Assuta the winner of the tender yesterday.

Construction of the Ashdod hospital is scheduled to begin within two years, and take four years.
