Ophir Tours offers $95,000 space trips

The travel agency has teamed up with Rocketship Tours, which is offering suborbital tours with the Lynx rocketship.

Ophir Tours Ltd. is offering a space tourism package at $95,000 per person. The travel agency has signed an exclusive agreement with Rocketship Tours Inc., which will begin offering trips to the edge of space beginning in 2012.

The flights will use the Lynx Mark 1 reusable single stage suborbital spaceship developed by XCOR Aerospace Inc.. The Lynx operates like a plane, taking off from a runway, makes a three-minute powered ascent at up to Mach 2 before coasting to an apogee of 200,000 feet within 4.25 minutes and descending back to earth. Total flight time is 30 minutes.

The tourism package is individual - one passenger, plus the pilot - plus four days training at the NASA flight center in Arizona, and five nights at an adjacent luxury hotel. The flights are made from the Mojave Air and Space Port in California.
