BoI to hold competition for new banknotes design

In the next two to three years, the Bank of Israel will be issuing a new series of banknotes, to replace the series in circulation since 1999.

Bank of Israel will for the first time hold a public competition for graphic designers wishing to design its new banknote series. Details about the competition will be published on the Bank of Israel's website and in newspapers in the coming few days.

In the next two to three years, the Bank of Israel will be issuing a new series of banknotes, to replace the current series, which has been in circulation since 1999. According to the Bank of Israel, the redesigned series will incorporate advanced security features. The new series will contain the current denominations of NIS 20, 50, 100, and 200.

The government recently approved the decision reached by Governor of the Bank of Israel Prof. Stanley Fischer to adopt the recommendation of the Committee for the Planning of Banknotes, Coins, and Commemorative Coins, regarding the portraits which will appear on the banknotes. NIS 20 bill: Rachel Bluwstein ("Rachel the poet"); NIS 50 bill: the poet Shaul Tchernichovsky; NIS 100 bill: poet and author Leah Goldberg; and NIS 200 bill: poet Natan Alterman.
