Terre Armee won the first tender in the NIS 2.8 billion 23-km. project published by Israel National Roads Company.

Terre Armee Ltd. has won the first tender in the Acre-Carmiel railway project published by Israel National Roads Company Ltd.. The tender is for the planning and building of a 6.5-kilometer stretch between Naaman and Yasif, including the construction of two bridges over the Naaman River and Hilazon River, and raising the roadbed of Road 4 along a 1.2-kilometer stretch to be over the railway bed. The company will also divert a 900-meter stretch of the Hilazon River.

The Acre-Carmiel railway will have ten tenders altogether, for earthworks, tunneling, laying the tracks, and construction of stations at Carmiel and Ahihud. Construction is due to take five years, and trains will be able to travel at 160 kilometer an hour.

The Acre-Carmiel railway is one of three railway lines scheduled for electrification. The others are the Jezreel Valley line and the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem high-speed line. The Acre-Carmiel railway calls for a double track along its 23-kilometer route paralleling Road 85 between the towns, at a total cost of NIS 2.8 billion.

The government appointed the Roads Company to oversee both the Acre-Carmiel railway and Jezreel Valley railway between Haifa and Beit Shean.
