Hapoalim retakes title as most valuable bank

For the first time since November 2007, Bank Hapoalim's market cap surpassed that of Bank Leumi.

For the first time since November 7, 2007, Bank Hapoalim (TASE: POLI) has a larger market cap than Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI), after Bank Leumi's share price fell 12.4% last week and Bank Hapoalim's share price fell 8%.

Last week, Bank Hapoalim's market cap fell to NIS 19.2 billion on Wednesday from NIS 19.8 billion on Sunday, while Bank Leumi's market cap fell to NIS 19.1 billion from NIS 20.1 billion. The gap widened on Thursday to NIS 19.18 billion for Bank Hapoalim compared with NIS 18.99 billion for Bank Leumi.

Bank Hapoalim's share price rose 1.8% at the opening today to NIS 14.76, and Bank Leumi's share price rose 3.5% to NIS 13.34
