25,000 people attend silent protest march in Tel Aviv

The protest against the high cost of living was kept low key because of the rocket barrages from Gaza.

25,000 people attended a silent protest march organized by the tent protest leaders on Saturday night from Habima Square at Rothschild Boulevard to Charles Clore Gardens on Tel Aviv's beachfront. The protesters carried torches and candles to symbolize the high cost of living in Israel. The protest was held in silence and kept low key because of the rocket barrages from Gaza against southern Israel over the weekend.

"This will be a silent protest with people carrying torches and candles to remind the prime minister that even in these difficult times, he is still responsible for the nation's health and welfare, just as he is responsible for its security," said the protest leaders in a statement.

The statement added that the mass demonstrations would not be held. It said, "When the march reaches Charles Clore Gardens on Tel Aviv's beachfront, we will all sit on the grass in broad or intimate discussion circles to talk, discuss, argue, sing, and everything will in exemplary silence to honor and identify with the victims of the criminal terrorist attacks. This hurts us all, this is everyone's protest."
