Israeli tourism to Turkey up 60% in August

84,000 Israeli visited Turkey in August 2011, 60.5% more than the 52,300 who visited in August 2010, three months after the Mavi Marmara incident, according to the Israel Airports Authority monthly operations report for Ben Gurion Airport.

Turkey, Greece, and Ukraine saw the highest increase in passenger traffic in August, over the corresponding month. In contrast, passenger traffic to Egypt fell 54.8% to 15,200 in August from 33,700 in the corresponding month.

August saw the greatest number ever of outgoing passengers. The Airports Authority says that 1.6 million passengers departed on 10,800 international and domestic flights from Ben Gurion Airport in August, 5% more than in August 2010.

There were 5.3% more international departures in August, compared with the corresponding month, but 3.3% fewer domestic departures.
