Ma'ariv prints "Israel Today" edition for first time

Sources: "Israel Today" decided to use the Ma'ariv printing house, because of a larger than usual print run ahead of Rosh Hashana.

The Ma'ariv printing house today printed an edition of "Israel Today" for the first time as its owner Sheldon Adelson collaborates with Ma'ariv Holdings Ltd. (TASE: MARV-M) controlling shareholder Nochi Dankner. The Ma'ariv printing house has also begun printing sections for the upcoming "Israel Today" weekend edition.

Sources at the newspapers told ''Globes'' that "Israel Today" decided to use the Ma'ariv printing house, because of a larger than usual print run ahead of Rosh Hashana (Jewish New Year), and because the regular printer, Haaretz is backed up with its own work.

However, if the effort succeeds, "Israel Today" and "Ma'ariv" could pursue and deepen their collaboration. This would put a further burden on "Ha'aretz" publisher Amos Schocken as the company earns tens of millions of shekels a year printing "Israel Today".

A top media source told "Globes", "Dankner may decide to push his collaboration with Adelson as part of his fight against Schocken and Guy Rolnick."

Last March, Ma'ariv Holdings, then controlled by Zaki Rakib, was in talks to sell the printing house to Adelson, as part of an effort to raise capital for financially troubled Ma'ariv.

"Israel Today" said in response, "Part of the supplement was printed by the Ma'ariv printing house, because of the need for a quick response for a larger edition."
