Jet fuel problems hit Ben Gurion Airport

Water might have seeped into the airport's fuel tanks, and there may not be enough fuel for long-distance flights.

Ben Gurion Airport spokesperson announced this morning that from laboratory tests that were conducted at the entrance of the fuel farm at the airport that the water separation coefficient in the fuel was low. It appears that water might have seeped into the fuel tanks, which apparently does not contaminate the fuel, but does dilute it.

After completion of the tests, the authorities decided to prepare for the possibility that fuel supply at Ben Gurion Airport might be limited starting from 8:00 pm tonight and until additional test results are available. Until that time, supply will remain at normal levels.

Ben Gurion Airport informed airlines that fuel supply for long distance flights might not be available.

Six months ago, jet fuel contamination was discovered in the Ben Gurion Airport fuel filters, which caused serious disruptions in flights for several days.
