Broadcom in talks to acquire Broadlight

If a deal is struck soon, it will be at a value of $200 million for the networking and embedded processor developer.

The on-again off-again talks by Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM) to acquire networking and embedded processor developer Broadlight Ltd. are apparently on again. The two companies have been collaborators at least since Broadcom invested in the company in 2004, and the idea of a merger has periodically come up. If a deal is struck soon, it will be at a value of $200 million for Broadlight.

Broadlight VP carriers strategy Didi Ivancovsky founded the company in 2000, and it was named one of the "Globes" Most Promising Start-ups for 2010. The company's processors provide fiber grade quality of service delivery for central office and customer premise equipment.

In 2009, Broadcom acquired Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) chipsets and software developer Teknovus, and it has been seeking Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) ever since. This is where Broadlight comes into the picture.
