Facebook to hold Tel Aviv mobile apps event

The event is one of a series aimed at encouraging developers to create social applications for Facebook's mobile application.

Facebook Inc. will hold an event for mobile application developers in Tel Aviv on March 13. The event is one of a series of events that the social network company is holding in Europe and Asia, following similar events at its Palo Alto headquarters and in New York and Boston. The events are aimed at encouraging developers to create social applications for Facebook's mobile application.

In October 2011, Facebook announced that it would allow access to applications and games via mobile devices. Previously, these services were only accessible via Facebook's website.

The idea of the Facebook events is for developers to learn about the advantages of the social platform, how to build applications for it, and to hold competitions with prizes for developers on that day. Facebook engineers and developers will come to Israel to judge the successful applications.

"We’ll kick off each with a pre-event introduction to Facebook, our platform, and the benefits developers have through working with us,” says Facebook Mobile Platform Product Marketing manager Jonathan Matus. “We’ll then deep-dive into learning about building social mobile apps with our new Open Graph platform
