Herzliya to apply for Saturday bus service

The Herzliya city council will ask Transport Minister Israel Katz for a permit to operate public transport in the city on Saturdays.

The Herzliya city council has announced that they will ask Minister of Transport Israel Katz for a permit to operate public transport in the city on Saturdays. The announcement follows last month's decision by the Tel Aviv-Jaffa city council to operate public transportation on the Sabbath.

Like in Tel Aviv, the Herzliya city council said that people without cars are forced to rely on taxis. They also cited environmental reasons.

Yesterday's vote by the Herzliya city council was 12:5. The municipality proposes to initially operate one line along the city's main arteries on Saturdays, from the city center, past the Seven Stars Mall, to the beach.

In view of the difficulty in obtaining a permit from the Ministry of Transport, the Herzliya Municipality said that it would petition the High Court of Justice if its request was denied.
