Business group seeks to boost philanthropy in Israel

Committed to Give: The low level of private donations in Israel in comparison to other countries concerns us.

20 prominent businesspersons are calling for an expansion of philanthropy in Israel. On their website Committed to Give, they disclose their names, and call for a critical mass of donors and donations. "We are driven by a sense of responsibility and commitment to the wellbeing and cohesion of Israel’s civil society," they write.

They add, "We are a group of Israeli social investors who have chosen to work together in order to significantly increase the level of private philanthropy in Israel, and to improve philanthropy’s effectiveness… The relatively low level of private donations in Israel in comparison to other countries concerns us. We will, therefore, act to create a critical mass of donors and donations, to strengthen and complement the government’s responsibilities, and to create partnerships between philanthropists."

Committed to Give's organizers include Orni Petrushka, Raya Strauss Ben-Dror, Ronny Douek, Noam Lautman, Shula Mozes, and Leon Recanati.

They conclude, "Everyone shares the responsibility but we, the affluent, have the obligation and the ability to invest our money, our experience, our connections and ourselves. We believe it is possible to change the society we live in for the better."
