Unemployment jumps
The unemployment rate rose from 6.8% in April to 7.1% in May, the Central Bureau of Statistics reports.

The unemployment rate rose from 6.8% in April to 7.1% in May 2012, amounting to 255,000 persons, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported today. At the same time, participation in the labor force by people over the age of 15 rose to 59.2% in May from 59.1% in April.
The unemployment rate among people aged 25-64 rose to 6.1% in May from 5.9% in April. Participation in the labor force by people aged 25-64 rose to 79.2% in May from 78.7% in April, and the employment rate of people aged 25-64 rose to 74.4% from 74.1%.
The labor force totaled 3.606 million persons in May. The number of men in the labor force fell to 1.787 million in May from 1.793 million in April, but the number of women rose to 1.566 million from 1.547 million.
