Appside? Israelis lead world in application usage

A report by mobile marketing firm Velti finds that Israeli smartphone users spend 80 minutes daily on apps.

As much as Israelis love their smartphone they love their smartphone apps, using them more than anyone else in the world. A report by mobile marketing company Velti plc (Nasdaq: VELT) found that, as of June, Israeli smartphone users were number one in the world in the use of apps. Israeli smartphone and tablet apps use them for an average of 80 minutes a day.

Sweden is in second place, with Swedes using apps for an average of 76 minutes a day, followed by Singapore, with an average of 75 minutes a day. The US is in eighth place, with Americans using apps for an average of 38 minutes a day.

Velti said that in the battle for smartphone operating system leadership, Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) is widening the gap over Google Inc's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android in user exposure to advertisements 62% to 38%, respectively. Use of sports apps rose by 76% and use of games apps rose by 90%. Since May, the effective cost per mille (eCPM) also rose, especially for sports apps ($0.76) and games ($0.90).
