US Jewish billionaire Sheldon Adelson today visited the editorial offices of the daily freesheet "Israel Today" to mark the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the newspaper that has shaken up the industry's foundations.

"You have led a revolution," Adelson told "Israel Today's" employees.

Adelson complemented the newspaper's editor Amos Regev and publisher Asher Baharav. He thanked the employees and told them that they had carried out a revolution in Israel's newspaper industry and called on them "to continue the good work."

Adelson mingled with the employees and had his picture taken with them. The editorial offices were decked out with balloons and special catering services were brought in for the event.

On Monday it was announced that rival daily "Yediot Ahronot," and its economics supplement "Calcalist" and website Y-Net" are laying off dozens of journalists, and sources at the paper pointed their finger at "Israel Today" and charged that the newspaper is being financially managed in a way that is destroying the market.
