Wind Jet bankruptcy strands Israelis in Rome

Wind Jet apparently cancelled all its flights after talks to merge with Alitalia broke down.

The bankruptcy of Italian charter airline Wind Jet has stranded 180 Israelis in Rome. The passengers were scheduled to depart from Rome to Tel Aviv at 11 pm, but discovered upon arrival at the airport that the flight had been canceled. They said they received no prior notification.

Wind Jet apparently cancelled all its flights after talks to merge with Alitalia broke down. Today's flight from Tel Aviv to Rome was also canceled.

Israel Airports Authority data state that Wind Jet carried 23,041 passengers through Ben Gurion Airport in 2011, 2.1% fewer than the 23,458 passengers carried in 2010. It carried 2,961 passengers to and from Israel in June 2012.
