Google closes Motorola Mobility Israel
Motorola Mobility Israeli will fire its 30 employees as part of the 20% cut of the Google division's global workforce.
Last week, Google announced that it planned to fire 4,000 employees at Motorola Mobility, 20% of the division's global workforce. Google acquired Motorola Mobility, a maker of Android smartphones and tablets, earlier this year for $12.5 billion, in order to use the company's patents.
Two thirds of the layoffs at Motorola Mobility are outside the US, and Google is closing a third of the division's facilities. The restructuring is due to take place within weeks. The layoffs will include 40% of Motorola Mobility's top management, according to "Bloomberg".
Motorola Mobility Israel said in response, "We are closing the local branch, and the employees will not remain at the company."
