Mon: Banks boost TASE

Strong gains by Bank Leumi and Bank Hapoalim led the market upwards today as Partner rose again.

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) rose today. The Tel Aviv 25 Index rose 1.09% to 1,228.82 points, the Tel Aviv 100 Index rose 1.16% to 1,088.10 points, and the BlueTech 50 Index rose 0.44% to 338.70 points. Turnover was NIS 1.5 billion.

The TASE rose strongly across the board today, in line with gains on European markets and despite a mixed opening on Wall Street.

The Central Bureau of Statistics will publish the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for September after the markets close today. The analysts' consensus is for a gain of 0.5%.

In the bond market, long-term Shahar unlinked government bonds ranged between losses of 0.1% and gains of 0.1% and long-term Galil CPI-linked bonds rose by up to 0.2%. The corporate bond benchmark Tel-Bond 20 Index rose 0.38%.

In the foreign currency market, Bank of Israel set the shekel-dollar representative exchange rate at NIS 3.816/$, down 0.63% on yesterday's rate, and set the shekel-euro representative exchange rate at NIS 4.952/€, down 0.59%.

In the stock market, Azrieli Group Ltd. (TASE: AZRG) rose 3.9% for the biggest gain among Tel Aviv 25 shares. Its real estate peer on the index, Gazit-Globe Ltd. (NYSE: GZT; TASE: GLOB) rose 3%.

Banks also rose strongly, with Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI) up 2.8% on the day's biggest turnover of NIS 97.6 million, and Bank Hapoalim (TASE: POLI) up 2.4% on the day's second biggest turnover of NIS 87.2 million.

Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR) rose another 1.2% today, and Bezeq Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ) rose 3.3%, but Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL) fell 0.4%. Cellcom's parent company, Discount Investment Corporation (TASE: DISI) rose another 5.2% to complete a 150% gain over ten weeks.

Leviathan partners fell again today, with Avner Oil and Gas LP (TASE: AVNR.L) fell 1.3% for the biggest loss among Tel Aviv 25 shares, and Delek Drilling LP (TASE: DEDR.L) fell 0.1%, while their parent company, Delek Group Ltd. (TASE: DLEKG) rose 2.1%, and their partner Ratio Oil Exploration (1992) LP (TASE:RATI.L) fell 2.7%

Insurance companies, listed on the Tel Aviv 100 Index, rose strongly today, led by a 7.8% gain by Clal Insurance Enterprises Holdings Ltd. (TASE: CLIS), a 7.4% gain by Harel Insurance Investments and Financial Services Ltd. (TASE: HARL) and 4.6% gain by Migdal Insurance and Financial Holdings Ltd. (TASE: MGDL).
