Mon: Banks lead market gains

Leumi, Hapoalim, Discount, and Mizrahi Tefahot all rose strongly, as did Teva.

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) rose today. The Tel Aviv 25 Index rose 0.59% to 1,223.96 points, the Tel Aviv 100 Index rose 0.45% to 1,084.70 points, and the BlueTech 50 Index rose 0.05% to 330.30 points. Turnover was NIS 744.9 million.

The TASE rose today, despite losses on European markets and a mixed opening on Wall Street.

The TASE reported today that the average daily turnover was NIS 1.3 billion in October, 13% above the daily average in September, and 19% above the average since the beginning of the year. The Financial Index and Oil and Gas Index stood out, both rising 13% in October.

In the bond market, long-term Shahar unlinked shekel government bonds rose by up to 0.1% and long-term Galil CPI-linked government bonds ranged between losses of 0.1% and gains of 0.1%. The corporate bond benchmark Tel-Bond 20 Index fell 0.05%.

In the foreign currency market, the Bank of Israel set the shekel-dollar representative exchange rate at NIS 3.904/$, up 0.51% on Friday's rate, and set the shekel-euro representative exchange rate at NIS 4.987/€, down 0.29%.

In the stock market, Perrigo Company (Nasdaq:PRGO; TASE:PRGO) rose 0.5%, ahead of the publication of its financials on Wednesday. Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NYSE: TEVA; TASE: TEVA) rose 1.5%.

Banks stood out today, led by a 2.7% rise by Mizrahi Tefahot Bank (TASE:MZTF) for the biggest among Tel Aviv 25 shares. Bank Hapoalim (TASE: POLI) rose 2.4% and Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI) and Israel Discount Bank (TASE: DSCT) both rose 2.1%.

Israel Chemicals Ltd. (TASE: ICL) fell 0.5% on the day's biggest turnover of NIS 69 million.

Telcos corrected upward today, with Bezeq Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ) up 1.3%, Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL) up 0.2%, and Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR) up 0.1%.

Energy exploration companies fell today, led by a 2.1% drop by Tamar partner Isramco Ltd. (Nasdaq: ISRL; TASE: ISRA.L) for the biggest loss among Tel Aviv 25 shares. Leviathan and Tamar partners Avner Oil and Gas LP (TASE: AVNR.L) and Delek Drilling LP (TASE: DEDR.L) fell 0.6% and 0.8%, respectively, and their parent company, Delek Group Ltd. (TASE: DLEKG), fell 0.8%.

Elsewhere in the market, IDB Holding Corp. Ltd. (TASE:IDBH) rose 1.7% and its bonds rose by up to 10.1%, following reports that it might mortgage its option on Koor Industries Ltd. (TASE:KOR) and Makhteshim Agan Industries Ltd. to KKR & Co. LP (NYSE: KKR) to secure a loan. IDB subsidiary Discount Investment Corporation (TASE: DISI) rose 6.2%.

AudioCodes Ltd. (Nasdaq: AUDC; TASE: AUDC) rose a further 9.4%, after publishing its financials, after rising 15.4% yesterday.
