Wed: Gaza assassination pushes TASE down

Mellanox rose strongly, but Partner was down for the biggest loss on the Tel Aviv 25 Index.

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) fell today. The Tel Aviv 25 Index fell 0.93% to 1,189.22 points, the Tel Aviv 100 Index fell 0.50% to 1,054.12 points, but the BlueTech 50 Index rose 0.97% to 331.38 points. Turnover was NIS 703.2 million.

The leading TASE indices fell sharply in late trading, after staying in positive territory during most of the session, after the IDF confirmed that the Air Force killed Hamas's military commander Ahmed Jaabari. European markets rose today, but Wall Street opened with losses.

The Bank of Israel today announced that the public's financial portfolio rose by 2.3% in real terms during the third quarter to NIS 2.6 trillion at the end of September. The public's stock portfolio rose by 3.3%, or NIS 44 billion.

In the bond market, both long-term Shahar government bonds fell by up to 0.1% and long term CPI-linked Galil bonds fell by up to 0.3%. The corporate bond benchmark Tel-Bond 20 Index fell 0.07%.

In the foreign currency market, the Bank of Israel set the shekel-dollar representative exchange rate at NIS 3.918/$, down 0.23% on yesterday's rate, and set the shekel-euro exchange rate at NIS 4.99/€, up 0.15%.

In the stock market, telco led the market down, with Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR) down 3.2% for the biggest loss among Tel Aviv 25 shares, while Bezeq Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ) fell 1.7% and Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL) fell 0.6%.

Israel Chemicals Ltd. (TASE: ICL) rose 0.3% on the day's biggest turnover of NIS 67 million.

Mellanox Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq:MLNX; TASE:MLNX) rose 4.1% for the biggest gain among Tel Aviv 25 shares, but its high-tech peers NICE Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: NICE; TASE: NICE) and EZchip Semiconductor Ltd. (Nasdaq: EZCH; TASE:EZCH) fell 1.5% and 1.2%, respectively.

Elbit Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: ESLT; TASE: ESLT) fell 0.4%. Barclays Capital today cut its 2013 forecasts for the company, and IBI Investment House Ltd. also expressed concerns, following the publication of the company's third quarter financials yesterday.

On the Tel Aviv 100 Index, Ceragon Networks Ltd. (Nasdaq: CRNT; TASE:CRNT) rose another 7.4% today, after yesterday's 4% gain, after publishing good financials. Protalix Biotherapeutics Inc. (AMEX:PLX; TASE: PLX) rose 8.1% following a "Globes" report yesterday that it was close to a deal with the Brazilian government.

Insurance companies rose, led by a 4% gain by Migdal Insurance and Financial Holdings Ltd. (TASE: MGDL) and 3.5% gain by The Phoenix Holdings Ltd. (TASE: PHOE1;PHOE5).

Small-cap Orbit Technologies Ltd. (TASE:ORBI) fell 9.7% on profit taking. NasVax Ltd. (TASE: NSVX) rose 5.6%, after announcing that it was invited by the World Health Organization to give a presentation about its universal flu vaccine.
