Thu: Tel Aviv 25 Index down 2.5% on week

The Gaza conflict continued to weigh on the TASE as Delek energy exploration units led losses but the banks bucked the market.

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) fell today. The Tel Aviv 25 Index fell 0.63% to 1,181.76 points, the Tel Aviv 100 Index fell 0.85% to 1,045.13 points, and the BlueTech 50 Index fell 1.56% to 325.41 points. Turnover was NIS 929.2million.

The TASE fell across the board today, going into the second day of Operation Pillar of Defense in Gaza. European markets fell today and Wall Street was mixed. The Tel Aviv 25 Index fell 2.5% for the week, after falling 0.7% last week.

The Central Bureau of Statistics will publish the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for October after the markets close today. Analysts expect a gain of 0.1-0.5%, with a consensus of 0.2%.

In the bond market, long-term Shahar unlinked government bonds were unchanged and long-term Galil CPI-linked bonds fell by up to 0.1%. The corporate bond benchmark Tel-Bond 20 Index fell 0.02%.

In the foreign currency market, Bank of Israel set the shekel-dollar representative exchange rate at NIS 3.952/$, up 0.63% on yesterday's rate, and set the shekel-euro representative exchange rate at NIS 5.043/€, up 1.07%.

In the stock market, Tamar and Leviathan partners Avner Oil and Gas LP (TASE: AVNR.L) and Delek Drilling LP (TASE: DEDR.L) fell 2.7% and 2.4%, respectively, for the biggest losses among Tel Aviv 25 shares, and their parent company, Delek Group Ltd. (TASE: DLEKG), fell 1.6%.

Most banks bucked the markets, led by a 2.4% gain by Bank Hapoalim (TASE: POLI) for the biggest gain among Tel Aviv 25 shares, Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI) rose 0.7% and Mizrahi Tefahot Bank (TASE:MZTF) rose 0.3%, but Israel Discount Bank (TASE: DSCT) fell 0.5%.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NYSE: TEVA; TASE: TEVA) fell 1.6%. The "Korea JoonAng Daily" reports that Teva had initial talks to acquire Handok Pharmaceuticals Co. Ltd. (KSX: 2390). Perrigo Company (Nasdaq:PRGO; TASE:PRGO) also fell 2.6%.

Israel Chemicals Ltd. (TASE: ICL) fell 1.7% on the day's biggest turnover of NIS 65 million, and its parent company, Israel Corporation (TASE: ILCO), fell 0.7%.

On the Tel Aviv 100 Index, Israel Land Development Company Energy Ltd. (TASE: IE) and Givot Olam Oil Exploration LP (TASE:GIVO.L), both fell 4%.

Tower Semiconductor Ltd. (Nasdaq: TSEM; TASE: TSEM) fell 0.4%, after publishing its financials, and Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. (Nasdaq: GILT; TASE: GILT) fell 2.7%, after First Israel Mezzanine Investors Fund (FIMI) increased its stake in the company.
