David's Sling successfully intercepts ballistic missile

In the test, David's Sling (also known as Magic Wand) intercepted a ballistic missile for the first time.

The David's Sling (also known as Magic Wand) anti-missile system successfully intercepted a ballistic missile in a test yesterday. The successful test completes the first phase of the system's development by the Israel Missile Defense Organization and the US Missile Defense Agency.

In the test, conducted by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. in southern Israel, David's Sling Stunner missile successfully intercepted a missile for the first time.

Rafael and Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) are jointly developing David's Sling. The system's radar system is being developed by Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI) (TASE: ARSP.B1) unit Elta Industries and Elbit Systems Ltd's (Nasdaq: ESLT; TASE: ESLT) Battle Management Center.

David's Sling is designed to provide an additional layer of defense against ballistic missiles by adding opportunities for interception to the Arrow anti-ballistic missile system, which is being jointly developed by the US and Israel, with the goal of improving Israel’s missile defense systems.
