Election halts Concentration Bill

The legislation will not go forward during the election recess.

Last night, Knesset Speaker MK Reuven Rivlin told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that, in his opinion, government and private bills should not move forward during the election recess, except for urgent and immediate national needs.

Netanyahu accepted Rivlin's position, and announced that he would not seek to convene the Knesset during the recess to move forward on government legislation, and instructed the cancellation of discussions on the concentration in the economy bill that the Knesset Finance Committee was due to hold in the coming weeks. Other legislative proceedings, including stricter handling of infiltrators, and tighter tax collection, will be postponed to the 19th Knesset.

"During the election recess, the Knesset should not take long-term decisions. MKs and political parties are busy campaigning, and flaws are liable to occur in the Knesset's legislative work. It is therefore preferable to postpone important legislative proceedings to the next Knesset," Rivlin said.
