Wed: Teva slumps

Teva fell hard after publishing its strategy, but the banks continued to rise.

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) was flat today. The Tel Aviv 25 Index was unchanged at 1,244.45 points, the Tel Aviv 100 Index fell 0.13% to 1,097.06 points, and the TechBlue 50 Index fell 0.14% to 334.72 points. Turnover was NIS 1.09 billion.

The TASE was flat today, despite gains in European markets and at the opening on Wall Street.

In the bond market, long-term Shahar government shekel bonds were unchanged and long-term Galil CPI-linked government bonds ranged between losses of 0.1% and gains of 0.2%. The corporate bond benchmark Tel-Bond 20 Index rose 0.13%.

In the foreign currency market, the Bank of Israel set the shekel-dollar representative exchange rate at NIS 3.78/$, down 0.68% on yesterday's rate, and set the shekel-euro representative exchange rate at NIS 4.93/€, down 0.22%.

In the stock market, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NYSE: TEVA; TASE: TEVA) fell 3.9%, for the biggest loss among Tel Aviv 25 shares, and on the biggest turnover of NIS 93 million, after announcing its strategic plan last night. DS Brokerage said that the plan included no surprises, adding, "The share apparently responded to the disappointment that dividends will not be increased. Leader Capital Markets cut its recommendation for Teva from "Buy" to "Market perform" with a target price of $45.

The banks again stood out favorably . The Banking Index rose 1.6%, with Bank Hapoalim (TASE: POLI) up 1.8% and Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI) up 0.9%. Mizrahi Tefahot Bank (TASE:MZTF) rose another 2.8%, and Israel Discount Bank (TASE: DSCT) rose 2.3%.

Oil Refineries Ltd. (TASE:ORL) fell 0.8%, after rising 3.1% yesterday.

Elsewhere in the market, Summit Real Estate Holdings Ltd. (TASE: SMT) rose 10.5%, continuing its gains since the start of the week after reporting the latest developments in its German properties. Allium Medical Ltd. (TASE: ALMD) rose 18% after obtaining an EU patent.
