TGI: "Yediot Ahronot" narrows "Israel Today" lead

Hebrew dailies "Yediot Ahronot" and "Israel Today" both strengthened in the second half of 2012.

"Israel Today" continues have the highest exposure rate among Israeli newspapers, and has even strengthened slightly, according to the semiannual TGI survey published today. According to the survey, Sheldon Adelson's freesheet reached an exposure rate of 39.9% in the second half of 2012. At the end of 2012, its average exposure rate for the year was 39.3%, compared with 38.1% in 2011.

However, the gap between "Israel Today" and "Yediot Ahronot" narrowed in 2012. "Yediot Ahronot" strongly boosted its exposure rate from 35.8% in 2011 to 37.4% in 2012. Most of the change occurred in the first half of 2012, when it achieved an exposure rate of 37.6%. In the second half of the year, the newspaper's exposure rate dipped slightly to 37.3%.

The exposure rate of "Yediot Ahronot's" Friday edition fell from 43.4% to 41.7% in the second half of 2012, while the exposure rate of "Israel Today's" Friday edition rose to 32.8% in the second half of the year.

"Yediot Ahronot's" economic supplement "Calcalist" maintained its exposure rate of 12.3% during 2012.

"Globes" has continued to maintain its exposure rate since the second half of 2011, rising slightly from 4.4% in 2011 to 4.5% in 2012.

"Haaretz" also maintained its annual exposure rate at 6.5% in 2012 compared with 6.6% in 2011, but there was a sharp drop in the newspaper's exposure rate in the second half of 2012. Following a strong rise in the second half of 2011, , the newspaper's exposure rate fell to from 7% in the first half of the year 6% in the second half.

The drop in "Haaretz's" exposure rate in the second half of 2012 occurred in all its supplements. The exposure rate of "Haaretz's" Friday edition fell from 7.6% in the first half of 2012 to 6.6% in the second half, and the exposure rate of its economic supplement, "TheMarker", fell from 7.7% in the first half to 6.1% in the second half. The annual exposure rate of the Friday edition and "TheMarker" both fell from 7.3% in 2011 to 6.9% in 2012.

"Ma'ariv" saw a sharp drop in its exposure rate. The upheaval at the newspaper and the negative publicity surrounding it caused the exposure rate to fall from 11.9% in the first half of 2012 to 9.7% in the second half. The newspaper's annual exposure rate fell from 11.5% in 2011 to 10.8% in 2012.

The annual exposure rate of "Ma'ariv's" Friday edition was fairly stable, however - falling from 13.1% in 2011 to 12.9% in 2012, despite a sharp drop from 14.1% in the first half of the year to 11.6% in the second half.
