App security co MyPermissions raises $1m

App security provider MyPermissions Ltd. has raised $1 million from lool Ventures , 500 Startups, 2B Angels, Plus Ventures, and private investor Robby Hilkowitz. The company's product alerts users when new Internet or mobile apps gain access to personal information. The company will use the proceeds to expand its product offering and speed up global user growth.

MyPermissions protects consumers’ personal information on the web through two free products: MyPermissions Cleaner and the mobile application Permissions. MyPermissions Cleaner is a web browser extension that lets users manage which applications and websites access their information and alerts users when a new app is accessing user data. Mobile application Permissions, which does the same thing for mobile apps, is now available on both iOS and Android. The system link directly to application permissions pages for services such as Facebook, Twitter and Google, to alert the consumer when an app is accessing their personal data, giving them control over their personal information again.

Headquartered in Ramat Gan, MyPermissions was founded by Avi Charkham in 2012. He said that the company's concept is, "If granting permissions is a matter of a single click then revoking them should be just as easy" and following this line of thought mypermission.org came into being. A simple page that lets people revoke any permission they gave in a single click."

MyPermissions CEO Olivier Amar said, “Applications access personal data such as email, photos, contacts and location in order to make using services like Facebook and Twitter better and more robust, which is great. However, over time, consumers tend to quickly add up the number of apps constantly accessing their data, and revoking access later can be difficult. We’re excited to be able to build out our product offering, expand our reach globally, and give more consumers the control they deserve over who accesses their personal information."

500 Startups founding partner Dave McClure said, "While we have invested in Israeli Founders in the US, this is our first investment in a startup based in Israel. We will be making more investments in Israel and other countries in the Middle East."
