Maglan launches cyber warfare research program

The NIS 5 million program will finance innovative research with operational applicability.

Maglan Information Defense Technologies Ltd. has set up a NIS 5 million cyber warfare research program. The funding will support practical research in network cyber and intelligence to help develop countermeasures and operative technology platforms.

In 2012, Maglan invested over NIS 5 million in R&D to keep its innovative lead in cyber warfare. The company has decided to institutionalize this activity, and in addition to its regular R&D, by financing open research to individuals anywhere. Maglan experts will review research proposals on the basis of innovation, creative thinking, and operational applicability.

Maglan managing director Shai Blitzblau said, "Rapid development in cyber warfare poses defense and intelligence challenges requiring rapid response in the cybernetic space. There is a constant need to locate and develop innovative breakthrough technologies and tactics for defense, attack, and cyber intelligence gathering. Academic research is almost irrelevant to operational cyber warfare. We hope that this initiative of setting up a practical research program will provide a flexible platform for promoting R&D in the field, especially from outside classic academe. The more we expand our reservoir of technological knowledge on the basis of current research tools, we will able to offer more innovative weapons for defending the developing cyber space."

Blitzblau founded Maglan in 1998 to provide information security and cyber defense services to organizations worldwide. Headquartered in Tzur Yigal, north east of Tel Aviv, where its laboratories are also located, the company has offices in Milan, Lugano, Singapore, Nairobi, and Lagos.
