Better Place sells Hawaii operations

OpConnect will buy and operate the electric car company's battery charging stations in the state.

Electric car venture Better Place Inc. has sold its Hawaii operations to Optimization Technologies Inc. unit OpConnect LLC, which will operate the battery charging stations in the state.

Better Place stated that it has almost 700 drivers in Hawaii and 77 charge spots and 154 charge points at public locations on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island. It added that Hawaii has more plug-in vehicles per capita than any state in the US.

"With OpConnect's combination of technology, customer focus and commitment to Hawaii, we believe EV drivers who use our network and our site-owner partners will be in great hands with OpConnect," said Better Place VP North America Jason Wolf.

OpConnect President and CEO Dexter Turner said, "Hawaii's Better Place network is a unique opportunity to accelerate our plans to serve drivers and property owners here."
