Unemployment rate dipped in March

The unemployment rate fell by 0.1 percentage points to 6.5% in March, from 6.6% in February.

The unemployment rate fell by 0.1 percentage points to 6.5% of the civilian labor force in March 2013, from 6.6% in February, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported today. There were 235,000 unemployed and 1.41 million employed persons in the total workforce over the age of 15 of 3.65 million.

The workforce included 1.82 million men in March, down from 1.83 million men in February, and 1.60 million women, down from 1.61 million (seasonally-adjusted figures). Participation in the labor force over the age of 15 fell to 63.5% in March from 64.1% in February. Participation in the labor force by men fell to 69.5% in March from 70.1% in February, and participation by women fell top 57.7% from 58.5%.

The unemployment rate among people over the age of 15 fell to 6.5% in the first quarter from 6.8% in the preceding quarter. The unemployment rate among men fell to 6.6% from 6.9%, and the unemployment rate among women fell to 6.4% from 6.8%.
