Cabinet approves Beer Tuvia independent power plant

The cabinet rejected a motion by former Minister of Environmental Protection Gilad Erdan against the power station.

The cabinet today approved by a large majority the construction of an independent power station by IPM Beer Tuvia Power Plant Ltd. at Beer Tuvia, in the southern coastal plain. The cabinet rejected a motion by former Minister of Environmental Protection Gilad Erdan against the power station, and voted in favor of the decision by the ministerial committee for national infrastructures chaired by Minister of the Interior Gideon Sa'ar to build it.

Local residents and the Beer Tuvia Regional Council have opposed construction of the power station for years, but its developers persuaded the planning commissions that the power station would not impose unwarranted risks to local residents.
